FLOW: Immersive Media Experience

FLOW explores the shapes, contours, and phenomena of the riffles on the Yampa River. Filmmaker/Photographer, Charlie Smith, Uses high resolution slow motion cameras for video and super high shutter speeds for photography, to capture images that escape the naked eye, opening a whole new world of stunning images. FLOW will consist of framed still images, projected video footage, and audio captured from the same riffle to create an immersive experience for the viewer.

FLOW will debut at the Chief on May 31st as part of the Friends of the Yampa event: State of the Yampa.

FLOW will also open at the Ski Locker on June 1st as part of the First Friday Art Walk.

Art Heals Group Show: Collaboration with the Foundry at The Ski Locker
Art Heals Group Show: YBC Members Only at Steamboat Smokehouse

May is National Mental Health Awareness month.  In that spirit, we invite members to reflect on the the role that creativity and making art serves in their mental health by creating a piece that explores these ideas.

"Creation can be powerful self-help tool in managing emotions, stress, and grief on the roller-coaster of life; "Art Heals" explores themes of struggle, hope, and recovery. For some, healing art may be literal. For others, it is more abstract. What kind of art heals you?"

YBC FFAW featuring // Alex Sorapuru // "I Never Learned to Swim"

Let ya momma & ‘em know
The time has finally come!!

I've been working, scrapping together hours; minutes, seconds, whatever I could manage getting this display together.
"I Never Learned To Swim" opens here in Steamboat Springs on May 4th in conjunction with First Friday Artwalk and will remain up until June.

Focusing on blind-contour portraits over the past few months, these pieces highlight a personal journey of self acceptance in a space that hasn't always felt accepting of me.
Through the ups and downs and moments of respite, my work has been a constant.

I'm excited for everyone to see it all pulled together. There will be a lot to see !

LUNAFEST 2017!!!!

LUNAFEST is a traveling film festival featuring award-winning short films made by, for and about women.

Hosted by the Bud Werner Memorial Library, this nationally touring film festival is designed to benefit a local organization that serves women in the Yampa Valley community. This year, LUNAFEST benefits Young Bloods Collective, the creators of SPEAK--Performances from Women in the Yampa Valley.

The film festival kicks off at 7 p.m. This season’s program of nine films filled with stories of reflection, hope and humor will compel discussion, make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings and motivate you to make a difference in your community. Incredibly diverse in style and content, LUNAFEST is united by a common thread of exceptional storytelling.

Your $10 donation at the door supports Young Bloods Collective's efforts to improve lives of women in the Yampa Valley through SPEAK, and the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners' work nationwide.

Sista Luna @ Smokehouse Gallery

Come check out Sista Luna @ Smokehouse Gallery. Sista is the Young Bloods Featured Artist for June!

Sista Luna is a Colorado native from Boulder.  She received her BA in Studio Art from Colorado College in 2010.  She is greatly interested in the processes of making art, which translates to a continuing exploration of mark making in her work.  Whether it be pen and ink drawing, monoprinting, charcoal figure drawing, or sculptural work; Sista emphasises the joys, frustrations, and problem solving that drives the process of creation through each medium she utilizes. Each mark is an echo of that moment of creation, captured by the artist’s hand and preserved by the medium she uses. Sista currently lives in Steamboat Springs with her fiance and their adorable puppy, Hazelnut.
