JULY : SOLO SHOW | PAULINA M. JOHNSON

Originally from Mexico City, via Southern and Northern California, and South Carolina, I've been immersed in the field of graphic design for over 15 years. I received an B.F.A. from the Academy of Art University and the University of San Francisco (joint co-op program) in 1999. More recently, in October of 2017, I earned an M.F.A. from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. I am an adjunct faculty member at Colorado Mountain College and reside in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where I enjoy the Rocky Moutains with my husband, two boys, and our fun-loving dog Diego.

About Copper Case

Copper Case began almost ten years ago in a little corner of our living room, inside our brown house. Since, it's become a greater metaphorical space where I practice design, make art, and grow. It allows me to connect with people as my work becomes a part of their vision as entrepreneurs, creators and difference-makers in our community. Copper Case is also the place where I document and reflect on where I've been and where I'd like to go, not only as a designer but as an educator, as a student and as an artist.

Where did the name Copper Case come from? Without getting too philosophical, it's a nod to a lot of different aspects of myself and my work. I love the flexibility and lifespan of copper, especially as it oxidizes and changes from brown to turquoise—one of my favorite colors. The word 'case' is a nod to my love of typography and the process of printing. In the days of movable type, characters were kept in separate cases (upper & lower) to make typesetting easier.

This is my 'case' where I catalog and keep my life's work, where I reflect on its evolution, and where I share it with others. Thanks for visiting!
